Frenkie de Jong is “disgusted” at Barcelona’s treatment and furious with Xavi, according to surprising reports.
The FC Barcelona star is frustrated at being left on the bench for this season’s big games.
On Wednesday he entered as a substitute in the 3-3 draw with Inter in the Champions League.
It was his tenth appearance of the season, but most of them made it to the bench.
The 25-year-old is said to be “disgusted” by the way Xavi has treated him this season.
This was reported by the Spanish outlet SPORT, which states that De Jong thought he would have a “decisive” role at Barca.
He is unhappy with the Barca coach, who has also benched him in matches against Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo.
Xavi preferred Sergio Busquets as well as superstars Pedri and Gavi in midfield.
He also doesn’t see the Dutch international as a long-term replacement for the old Busquets.
De Jong’s current situation at Camp Nou could reignite the search for the Manchester United midfielder.
Obviously, Erik ten Hag was determined to sign his former player after his appointment at Old Trafford.
But he failed in his attempt to lure De Jong to Manchester United.
However, other reports suggest that Ten Hag is still interested in signing the former Ajax player and has not been deterred by his resistance to leaving Spain last summer.
De Jong was Ten Hag’s number one transfer target last summer when the Man United manager eventually secured Casemiro’s services.
The Red Devils paid 60 million pounds to snatch him from Real Madrid.
But it looks like Ten Hag is still excited to bring De Jong to Man United.
