USA: 20,000 H-2B visas will be available for Haiti and other countries

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in consultation with the Department of Labor (DOL), announces that 20,000 visas will be available for Haiti and Latin American countries in fiscal year 2023 which begins in October.

Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are the Latin American countries whose workers will benefit from this visa allowance, according to the DHS website.

The move “is part of the Biden administration’s commitment to the Los Angeles Declaration for Migration and Protection, which aims to expand legal pathways as an alternative to irregular migration,” the institution’s website reads.

“It is also in line with the joint commitment made in July by President Biden and Mexican President Lopez Obrador to work together to expand seasonal and circular employment opportunities and to ensure that migration is a choice and not a necessity,” he continues. the United States Department of Homeland Security.

On the other hand, DHS says that regulations will be issued to make available to employers an additional 64,716 temporary H-2B visas for non-farm workers for fiscal year (FY) 2023, in addition to the 66,000 H-2B visas that they are normally available every fiscal year.
