In a freak incident, German federal prosecutors announced today Thursday that police had arrested a woman suspected of being involved in an attempt to kidnap Health Minister Karl Lauterbach earlier this year.
In detail, prosecutors said the woman, a German woman identified by the prosecution as Elizabeth R. Solo, is suspected of being the leader of an extremist group that plotted to kidnap Lauterbach and destroy electrical facilities to interrupt service in national level.
Conspiracy with weapons and explosives
They added that she was involved in devising the plot on behalf of the extremist group, so she bought weapons and explosives and recruited people of the same ideology.
They also revealed that this group had set itself the goal of creating conditions similar to civil war in Germany and decided to eventually overthrow the federal government and parliamentary democracy.

Prosecutors said Elizabeth R. later went before a federal judge on Thursday to decide whether she will remain in detention until formal charges are brought against her.
The guards were also killed
Interestingly, the police announced, after the failed kidnapping attempt in April, 4 others who claimed to belong to groups opposed to the restrictions imposed to fight Covid-19 and were affiliated with the far-right movement Reichsberger, which denies the existence of the modern German state.

To this end, the group planned to cut off electricity nationwide, kidnap Lauterbach and, if necessary, kill his bodyguards.
