Ambassadors from EU member states reached agreement on a mandate for negotiations with the European Parliament on the decision not to accept Russian travel documents issued in Ukraine and Georgia, BNR reported.
Russian travel documents issued in the Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine or in the breakaway territories in Georgia will not be accepted as valid for obtaining a visa or crossing the borders of the Schengen area.
The decision is in response to the military aggression against Ukraine and the Russian practice of issuing Russian international passports to residents of the occupied regions. It also follows Russia’s unilateral decision to recognize the independence of the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2008.
