On the evening of October 11, the Latvian electric car municipality was shocked to hear that the Tesla Supercharger charging station near the Acropole train station in Riga started operating.
Already in the summer rumors circulated that Tesla had decided not to install a Supercharger charging station in Salaspils, preferring the Acropole Rīga. At the end of September, 4 shippers were already standing in the parking lot, wrapped and fenced off. On the evening of 11 October, the chats of the Latvian electric car WhatsApp and Discord were detected by the news that the charging station was working.
Currently, 3 charging stations are marked on the Tesla charging map in Latvia – Supercharger Rezekne stationwhich can serve 4 electric vehicles with a charging capacity of 150kW, the Salaspils charging station, for which the opening date has been set for the 2nd quarter 2022 (missed and most likely no longer relevant) and Riga, for which all information is has not yet been set.
The most attentive have already recognized that V3 Supercharger charging systems have been installed at the Akropole t / c, which provide 250kW of power (the Tesla app also claims 250kW of power), which means that the total power in this station charging is 1 MW. It is currently the most powerful charging station in Latvia. Plus, it’s free for Tesla owners. Like the Rēzekne charging station, the Riga charging station is included in the group of Ukrainian support charging stations, providing free charging. This, of course, cheers local Tesla owners, who had already lined up ten cars for recharging at 9:35 pm on the evening of October 11, which recharged quickly and had free slots available by 10:05 pm. Of course, many wanted to gain experience quickly.
It should be noted that there are CCS2 tips here, meaning older Tesla cars that come with a Tesla Type 2 charging socket will need an adapter or conversion to use these chargers. Currently, Latvian charging stations are not available for other electric vehicles, but considering Tesla is increasing the number of countries where it is also possible to charge other electric vehicles, then it’s just a matter of time. At that time, the charge will be paid.
Other Tesla Supercharger charging stations closest to Riga Supercharger are located in Rēzekne e in Kaunasbut the date of the Pärnu Supercharger has not yet been announced.
