NEW YORK – The New York City Police Department announced on Tuesday the launch of a new app with a resource map that agents can use to help the LGBTQIA + community. This as part of the National Day Come out and the month of LGBTQIA + history.
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell noted that the app will provide field police personnel with searchable access to LGBTQIA + community centers, advocacy organizations, and other critical resources so they can share it with the people they serve in this community. .
“We all know that we live and work in a very diverse city and we know that all kinds of resources are available if we only know where to find them. Now NYPD officers will have that critical information at their fingertips and will be able to share it with the people we serve instantly, “the commissioner said.
Officers will be able to search by area or address and instantly access detailed information for more than 150 locations across the Big Apple. In this way, they will be able to offer the LGBTQIA + community information about the resources they have such as legal, medical, housing, mental health or other vital services.
People in the LGBTQIA + community will be able to turn to any police officer to get instant information on resource locations on a variety of topics.
The map to which police will have access will be periodically updated and revised to reflect the most current resources available and will be a valuable tool for providing assistance to crime victims and facilitating community awareness and neighborhood police.
“This app is just the latest innovation in our efforts to deliver on our public safety promise to all New Yorkers. We hope to put it into practice and help as many people as possible “, added the commissioner.
