The first-person action game Cyberpunk 2077 has become for CD Projekt RED the biggest and at the same time failed project in the history of the Polish studio. Game industry experts mention a number of reasons for the game’s failure to release, but many errors will be corrected by the developers already during the creation of the sequel. CD Projekt RED CFO Piotr Nelyubovich assures fans that the development of the sequel will go much faster than the first game.

According to the head of CD Projekt RED, the sequel has already managed to get rid of one of the main problems of Cyberpunk 2077: the RED Engine. The team put a lot of time and effort into a complete game engine conversion, which turned out to be quite problematic in the end. In the new game, codenamed Project Orion, developers are transitioning to Unreal Engine 5, which immediately fixes a number of optimization issues. Furthermore, CD Projekt RED has managed to reorganize the approach to game development and make it more transparent at all levels, which should improve communication between the different departments and solve the problem of misunderstandings between management and teams.

How CD Projekt RED’s approach to game creation has changed, we can only see after the release of Project Orion. Then it will be revealed how the modern Unreal Engine 5 has affected the quality of the game.
