The consumer loan portfolio – cards, payroll financing, personal and car loans, mortgage loans, among others – reached the highest level ever recorded in August, for a total of 1 trillion 133 thousand 364 million pesos.
The above reflects a nominal growth of 15.4 percent, compared to 982,000 250 million recorded in the same month of the previous year, official data from the Bank of Mexico (BdeM) reveal.
This is the highest amount documented by the central bank for this loan portfolio, which dates back to 1995, and according to Intercam analysts, for a month, it is the best advance in nearly 10 years.
The consumer credit segment includes loans granted by banks via credit cards, payroll loans, personal loans, auto loans, for the acquisition of real estate, among others.
“Consumer loans, which represent 21.7 per cent of the total, continue to show strong increases given the social reactivation of the country. The change recorded was 15.4 per cent, the most important advance in almost 10 years. Month after month, 17 billion pesos were placed in new credits, a significant level, ”said Inter-cam. In August, according to official data, almost all of the sub-segments of consumer credit made double-digit nominal advances, with the exception of car loans.
In this regard, the portfolio of the credit card portfolio stood at 414 thousand 334 million pesos, which means an annual advance of 16.4 percent compared to August of the previous year. Compared to July this year, the increase was 1.9 percent and through this means 7,000 775 million pesos were placed in new loans.
In the sector of loans to workers through paychecks, the balance was 391 thousand 764 million pesos, with an advance of 15.4 percent compared to the eighth month of last year. Month by month, the increase was 1.4 percent and 4,000 437 million pesos were placed.
The central bank also indicates that in the personal loans segment the current portfolio was placed at 187 thousand 808 million pesos, an increase of 17 percent compared to August 2021. Compared to July, the growth was 1.9 percent and the placement of new credits was for 3,000 512 million pesos.
The lowest performing segment was auto loans, which reported a portfolio of 150,000 and 38 million pesos, an annual increase of 4.7 percent.
