Unmistakable appearance, original expression. Discreet, but very distinctive. Even though he had only barked in the film, everyone remembered him. It was the talented actor and musician, master of small roles Evzhen Yegorov († 55), who would have celebrated his 85th birthday in 2022. What was the life story of the famous artist?
Evžen Jegorov, born in Prague, had Russian ancestry. Even his grandfather was a tsarist officer. The actor himself, with his typical humor, stated that everyone should beware of him because he is of Asian descent.
He loved music from an early age and was said to have a talent from God. Whatever musical instrument he started playing, he excelled. He was brilliant on the piano, clarinet or saxophone. He graduated from the State Conservatory and then got a job at the Rokoko Theater, where he worked in the quintet for six seasons.
Later he moved to the Semafor Theater in Ferdinand Havlík’s orchestra. He not only worked there as a musician, but gradually began to apply himself in performances as an actor in minor roles. He soon he began to settle in front of the camera. Among his peers, Yegorov had a reputation as a good guy with a heart of gold, who liked the recession and was able to do just about anything for fun. One night, for example, he moved a piano across Prague, put it under a friend’s window, and started playing on it.
At the end of life struggled with alcohol. He became addicted to it and ended up in the hospital. When he returned home after a few months, it was said that he was a completely different person. “It was no longer the old Evžen we knew, that he was full of people everywhere, that he entertained others. He was so sad”, recalled colleague Jitka Molavcová (72) in the documentary Stories of the Famous.
A great hobby of Evžen Yegorov was painting and also cars. He also participated in races as a driver. Eventually he met his death behind the wheel. Four days after Christmas 1992, he went shopping for his wife and during the trip he had a heart attack. He managed to stop on the pavement so as not to endanger anyone, but he didn’t get out of the car … he was only 55 years old.
