Pablo Lyle He was convicted of manslaughter for an event that occurred in 2019. The 35-year-old actor from Mazatlan is due to serve his sentence in Miami, United States. His case shook the world of Mexican entertainment and for several months not only he and his family were on the edge, but all his friends, colleagues and followers.
The case dates back more than three years ago, when the actor punched a dead man days later, in the hospital, to which he was brought due to a head injury.
During the trial, the defense of the Mexican artist, who on Monday did not exercise the right to testify at the hearing of the final arguments, claimed that Lyle acted to protect himself and requested the dismissal of the case under the law of personal defence of the state of Florida.
However, prosecutor Gabriela Alfaro convinced the jury members. In her last arguments, she repeated the words Hernández allegedly said before falling to the ground to death: “Please don’t hurt me”.
Background
Lyle was on his way to Miami airport in a vehicle driven by his brother-in-law, Lucas Delfino, when they came across the car driven by Hernández, who at a traffic light got out of his car to berate Delfino for a maneuver behind the wheel.
In the midst of that discussion, Lyle got out of the car and ran over Hernández, who, according to images collected by security cameras at a nearby gas station, instantly collapsed.
Lyle, known for soap operas such as “My Adorable Curse”, is married to Ana Araujo, with whom he has a son.
Four days after the accident, Hernández died in hospital from a head injury.
Evidence
The strongest proof is videotaken by a security camera in a service station located in front of the traffic lights where the facts occurred.
All the action is clearly visible in the video and it is therefore possible to describe in detail the history of the incident.
In addition, the prosecutor summoned a witness who was inside his car at the same intersection. He said he saw Pablo Lyle “run with aggression and clenched fists”. The witness claimed that Lyle hit Hernandez after he “raised his hands to protect himself and yelled in Spanish: ‘No, please don’t hurt me.'”
The defense, for its part, alleged some inconsistencies in the witness’s testimony.
The defense of the actor
Pablo Lyle has been married since December 2014 to Ana Araujo.
His wife was indirectly involved in the car altercation on March 31, 2019. She testified, saying she was extremely frightened and suffered a severe blow to the vehicle during the accident.
Pablo Lyle’s defense has always maintained that the Mexican actor’s actions were in self-defense and demanded, once again, that the case be dismissed on charges of Florida state self-defense law.
Ana Araujo also pointed out that she did not witness the moment when Pablo Lyle hit the Cuban citizen because he had his back to the scene, and also indicated that everything happened very quickly.
Final decision
This Tuesday, October 4, the verdict of the Miami prosecutor’s office on Pablo Lyle’s guilt for the death of Juan Ricardo Hernández was known.
The Mazatlan-born actor has been found responsible for manslaughter and faces up to 15 years in prison.
It should be remembered that since March 2019 Pablo Lyle has remained under house arrest thanks to the payment of a bail worth 50 thousand dollars.
various media, including Telemundo 51indicated that Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez provides a prison sentence of 9 to 10 years for the Mexican actor.
Likewise, it has been learned that his lawyer, Philip Reizenstein, has asked for the reduction of his sentence for faultless conduct, and that, moreover, all the years in which he has been under house arrest are taken into account.
