Dozens of students in Mexico mysteriously poisoned | NOW

At least 57 high school students in southern Mexico were mysteriously poisoned on Friday. This was reported by the local authorities of the state of Chiapas. According to local media, it is the third mass poisoning of schoolchildren in Chiapas in two weeks.

57 teenagers were taken to the local hospital in the rural community of Bochil on Friday. They showed symptoms of poisoning. One of the students was taken to a hospital in the state capital in “weak” conditions. The rest of the students are stable. The Mexican Institute of Social Security says so.

Images are circulating on social media that show a chaotic situation of parents bringing their children in school uniform to the hospital.

Authorities have not yet released a lawsuit. Parents suspect students have been exposed to contaminated water or food, local media said.

The prosecutor said Saturday that 15 students had undergone drug tests. They seemed not to be under the influence. Rumors have circulated on social media that the students tested positive for cocaine.
