After a mixed comeback in 2019, the Frappadingue it was to take place in Montreuil this Sunday, 23 October. A thousand people were registered, according to the organizers. But the latter have just announced the pure and simple cancellation of the event. All participants will be reimbursed via the bank account used at the time of registration.
The organizers say they are throwing in the towel because they are ” tired of fighting against the services of the sub-prefecture which are relentless against the demonstration “The latter must indeed receive a declaration receipt by state services before they can stand. Twenty days before the event, this was not the case.
Contacted, the sub-prefect explains of ” it has not prohibited or canceled anything but he asked for three conditions which he did not fulfill. ” We asked to provide the name of the body that certifies the obstacles; verify compliance with some obstacles that do not meet the criteria of their federation (For instance heights exceeding 3 meters in height); and finally explain to us what would be done to disturb the bats as little as possible, a protected species in a part of the route classified as a Natura 2000 area. “
For their part, the organizers say they do not understand all these blocking points. ” Our record on barriers is no different (there are ten races a year, everywhere in France ed), but we get the permissionssupports Perrine Hostyn, one of the members of the organizing association. For the environment, we were told: you will see, it will be easier in October than in May for the animal reproductive cycle, but no. There was the municipal and inter-municipal will to bring the race back to Montreuil but it won’t happen, it’s a real shame. “
In recent years, the return of Frappadingue to its hometown of Montreuil has only clashed with its organizational difficulties, on both sides. Without counting a growing erosion of the number of members
: 2,600 in 2019, 1,000 for this 2022 edition. These are no longer the obstacles that stand in front of this race but a wall that now seems insurmountable.
