Steam Deck and Docking Station are available for purchase without reservation – Games – News

So you see those games as unsupported, just like Switch, for example, doesn’t have support for some games. For example, you have to buy games from Nintendo with a Switch, and you can’t play Horizon: Zero Dawn on a Switch, for example. However, these points aren’t seen as a negative point for the Switch in reviews.

I don’t think the comparison works. The Switch is not positioned as a device for playing games that are not available on the Switch, the Steamdeck there and against it is positioned as a device for playing Steam games.

To quote Valve their own site

After logging into the Steam Deck, your entire Steam library appears, just like any other PC.

I don’t see an option on Switch to purchase and launch Horizon Zero Dawn, I see an option here to play Destiny 2.

Your comparison with the Switch is why I don’t think this is a consumer product at the moment. This isn’t a Switch experience, it’s more a hobby experience. This is what the whole product looks like to me.
And that’s okay, but I think there will be some disappointed folks who see it as Switch, but for PC gaming. And unfortunately it is not.

You must therefore contextualize that what the Deck offers is not for everyone and adapt the review target groups accordingly.

I disagree, and it’s because of how Valve positions it. I think their marketing is too broad. Maybe in a year it will get better but at the moment some choices have been made that make me and not my girlfriend the target audience. She was thrilled, but she never touched it again and returned to Switch and desktop.
