The cult classic in the form of the legendary plumber Mario is back on the big screen – thankfully, this time a full-fledged animated film awaits us, rather than weird experiments with live actors.
Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto was the first to unveil the project and thanked Mario fans for their support. As for producer Chris Meledandri, known for his work on Ice Age and Despicable Me, he said the cast and crew consisted of “fanatic” Mario.
The film adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the result of a collaboration between Nintendo and the animation division of Universal Pictures Illumination. Work on this tape was announced in 2018, but we have now seen it live for the first time.
Chris Pratt voiced Mario in the new cartoon, and main antagonist Bowser got the voice of the musical Jack Black. The trailer itself features the work of these actors in all its glory and looks really very bright and dynamic, and the CGI doesn’t hurt the eyes and looks pretty.
The video presents us with a sequence with many references, understandable to the fans, in which Bowser falls on the peaceful kingdom of the penguins, and then the camera shows us the Kingdom of the Mushrooms and Mario. Also, we can take a look at Mario’s brother Luigi and the canonical turtles.
Chris Pratt in the role of Mario did not try to be smart with an Italian accent and tried to slowly parody Adriano Celentano: the actor simply spoke in his own voice, so the hero sounds quite American, but natural.
The release of the Super Mario Bros film is scheduled for April 7, 2023.
