British Princess Anne paid a surprise visit to New York. The daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth sailed on the Staten Island ferry, the New York public transportation company shared on Twitter.
According to American media, the Princess Royal of St. George, Staten Island, also visited the National Lighthouse Museum. Here she was named honorary president of the Campaign for Illuminating Future Generations, which raises funds for new lighthouse exhibits and larger museum homes.
Anne said at the ceremony that lighthouses have always been a good way to educate people about the importance of maritime affairs. “It’s not just about the lighthouse keeper’s job, it’s also about the impact of what we do at sea and how we can better care for it and how that affects our lives.”
