Chipmaker Micron announces construction of a new chip factory in the US state of New York. The company is investing $ 100 billion in the plant over a 20-year period.
Micron plans to begin construction in 2024, with the first construction phase expected to be completed by the end of this decade. The new factory is expected to create up to 50,000 jobs, the company reports. The plan is part of the US focus on increasing chip production on US soil. “Micron’s megafab in New York is part of its strategy to gradually increase production of industry-leading US-made DRAMs to 40 percent of the company’s global production over the next decade,” Micron wrote in a press release.
It is the second investment in an American chip factory that Micron has announced in a short time. In early September, the company announced the construction of a new memory chip factory in the US state of Idaho. The company is investing $ 15 billion in this location.
