Brushing our teeth every day is essential to maintaining them, but sometimes we make unintended mistakes that can do more harm than good.
So let’s tackle some of the most common mistakes we make when brushing our teeth, as reported on the “Bright side” website:
1- Rinse your mouth immediately after brushing your teeth:
Rinsing your mouth immediately after brushing makes cleaning less effective because the water reduces the concentrated fluoride in the toothpaste.
Therefore, you should use a fluoride mouthwash to keep the enamel layer protected.
2- Do not brush your tongue:
To get rid of bad breath, brush your tongue, as it is an ideal environment for bacteria to reproduce.
3- Use a lot of dental floss:
Dental floss is an essential part of your oral hygiene routine, but its frequent use can cause gum infections.
4- Use an old toothbrush:
Prolonged use of a toothbrush causes tooth decay, damage to the gums and an increase in bacteria.
Keeping brushing in a damp bathroom helps mold growth, so if you notice black spots on the bristles, replace them immediately.
5- Use a type of toothpaste:
When we feel comfortable using a certain toothpaste, we use it for long periods, but the microorganisms living in your mouth can get used to it and this reduces the effectiveness of cleaning.
It is best to change the toothpaste every two to three months.
6- Brush your teeth immediately after eating:
Brushing your teeth after eating helps prevent harmful bacteria, but this weakens your tooth enamel, so you should wait 30 to 60 minutes after eating.
