The plane took off from Grant County International Airport in the US state of Washington and returned about eight minutes later. At its premiere, it reached a flight level of one kilometer, the Seattle Times reports.

According to the Independent, it is the first all-electric aircraft designed for short commercial flights of up to 640 kilometers. It could, for example, operate routes from London to many cities in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands or the rest of the UK.

The plane has already been ordered by two American regional airlines, the logistics company DHL or the German public broadcasting company Deutsche Welle are also interested in it.

“The Alice plane can easily cover up to 80% of our flights, providing customers with sustainable, carbon-neutral travel,” said Cape Air founder Dan Wolf, who also expressed interest in the machine.

Acute operation up to five years
“Today we have embarked on a new era of aviation. We have successfully electrified the sky,” commented Eviation CEO Gregory Davis during the first flight. “Now people will learn what clean and sustainable air travel looks like and sounds like. This important milestone will lead to innovation in the aviation industry and set the next direction for passenger and cargo air transport, ”Davis added.

The company hopes to have its aircraft fully certified by 2025, so that they can be delivered to interested parties the following year. They could start trading with them in 2027.
