ABU DHABI, October 2 / WAM / The board of directors of the joint company between Oman Rail, developer and operator of the national railway network in the Sultanate of Oman, and Etihad Rail, developer and operator of the national railway network in the United Arab Emirates, held his first meeting, two days after the signing of the agreement The establishment of the company between the two parties, which took place on the sidelines of the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, to the Sultanate of ‘Oman.

The board of directors of the company includes His Excellency Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, His Excellency Ing. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in the Sultanate of ‘Oman, and Sheikh Nasser bin Sulaiman Al Harthy, vice president of the Oman Investment Authority for Operations, acting and chairman of the board of directors of the Asyad group, SE Saeed Al Zaabi, chairman of the board of directors of Etihad Rail Transport for Passengers, Ing Abdul Rahman bin Salem Al Hatmi, CEO of ASYAD Group, and Ing. Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail.

Board members appreciated the unlimited support of the wise leaderships in the two countries and their strategic vision in improving the ways of cooperation and joint work between the two countries in various fields, and the directive to establish the common company to implement and manage a railway network that connects the port of Sohar with the national railway network of the United Arab Emirates, which stands as an extension of the solid strategic and historical relationships that unite the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates at all levels, to contribute to open new horizons in the sectors of infrastructure, transport and logistics by connecting the economic, industrial, commercial and residential areas of the two countries with the railways, which improves commercial circulation and social cohesion.

The board of directors of the company also dealt with the plans for the implementation of the joint project between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, including the work of technical studies and engineering design, environmental studies of the routes, business model and commercial affairs of the mixed company.

The Board stressed the importance of adopting best practices in relation to the institutional framework and the governance and management systems of the company, to enable the company to carry out its tasks and achieve the objectives desired by its institution and to adopt the higher standards of global safety, and sustainability through the development of the railway network between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, which extends over a distance of 303 km, to provide safe and fast services for passenger transport and transportation goods, thus contributing to the promotion and development of the national economy of the two countries, as well as increasing the efficiency of the supply chain system and facilitating cross-border trade between the two countries by connecting the commercial outlets to the railway network.

His Excellency Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei stressed that the establishment of the mixed company between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates is in line with the directions of the two sister countries to achieve sustainable development by upgrading the transport and transport sectors. infrastructure to new horizons, to support economic and commercial growth, as the company will work through The development of the joint railway network aims to strengthen the land transport system between the two countries according to the highest standards and levels, to provide a means of transport safe, reliable and sustainable transport, which will strengthen the connection between industrial and commercial areas, as well as the consolidation of the social cohesion that has always united the two peoples.

For his part, His Excellency Ing. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali stressed: “This strategic partnership for the construction of the railway network between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates brothers, will strengthen the common fraternal bond that has been established by the leadership of the two sister countries, and translates common goals into the social and economic integration between the two countries, and contributes to In logistical support to various commercial and economic activities and to the growth of trade and economic exchanges, it opens wider horizons and transport options of qualities that help to make an effective link between the port of Sohar and the free zone on the Oman side and the industrial and economic areas of the UAE brothers.

It is worth noting that the establishment of the joint company between Oman Rail and Etihad Rail took place with the aim of designing, developing and managing a railway network that connects the port of Sohar to the national railway network of the United Arab Emirates, with an investment total of three projects (3) billion US dollars.
