Hurricane Ian A powerful force is hitting the east coast of the United States. As a result, the launch of the mission NASA the moon it had to be postponed until mid-November.
NASA plans to launch a mission Artemis 1 Tuesday (9/27), but had to be canceled due to Hurricane Ian which hit the state of Florida. As is known, the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), which is the launch center of NASA, is located on the coast of Florida.
The violent storm forced NASA to move Artemis I from Launch Pad 39B at KSC to its hangar in the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to avoid damage from the storm.

According to the latest NASA update, the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion capsule that are part of the Artemis mission have not yet suffered any damage from the storm. But due to Hurricane Ian, NASA was forced to postpone the planned launch of Artemis 1 between 12 and 27 November.
“Focusing efforts on the November launch period gives Kennedy employees time to meet the needs of their families and homes after the storm and for the team to identify any additional checks needed before returning to the runway for the launch.” NASA said in a statement Saturday (10/1/2022).
After Artemis 1’s return to the VAB, the NASA team will conduct a series of checks. One of them is to re-test the Flight Termination System (FTS).
The FTS is expected to be retested every 20 days following the rules of the US Space Force which oversees rocket launches on the east coast of the United States. This control is very important because the FTS is a system designed to automatically destroy the rocket if the rocket goes off course during launch.
Artemis 1 it is the first mission of the Artemis program. The program was launched 50 years after the Apollo missions ended to bring NASA astronauts back to the lunar surface and establish a permanent colony in the late 1920s.
Hopefully, Artemis 1, which is an unmanned mission, will take the Orion capsule to the Moon and return to Earth. It will be followed by Artemis 2 which will take astronauts into lunar orbit in 2024 and Artemis 3 which will land astronauts on the moon.
