There was no shortage of it new claims after Queen Margaret this week has expired with the fact that Prince Joachim’s children will no longer be called princes and princesses from January 1st.
He has since called the decision both incomprehensible and a betrayal.
Saturday appeared in an exclusive interview with BT Danish, where he and Princess Marie now speak openly about the strained relationship with Crown Prince Frederik and Mary’s couple.
– It’s complicated, that is. That’s it, says Princess Marie, to BT on Saturday.
When asked if they have spoken to the Crown Prince’s couple, they both say “no”.
Nor should the queen have come into contact, according to Prince Joachim
– Unfortunately no. There is also the family. Or what we should call it, says Prince Joachim.
The queen refuses to answer
The queen’s reasoning was that the four grandchildren “should be able to shape their lives more without being limited by particular considerations and obligations”, if they are not princes and princesses.
This led to Prince Joachim (53) this week he headed a heavy fire against the mother, where he said he was “five days’ notice to tell my children that their identity has been stolen from them”.
On Saturday evening the whole Danish press was waiting for the queen, who had arrived at a gala dinner at the castle. They asked what she thought about Prince Joachim feeling left out.
– Not today.
Crown Princess Mary (50) went out on Friday with her supporting the queen’s decision.
– We will also look at our children’s titles when the time comes.
– Change can be very difficult and can really hurt, said the Crown Princess.
– I think most people have experienced it too, he added.
Prince Joachim and Princess Marie now say the children are saddened by Queen Margrethe’s decision. Prince Joachim points out that if one is to modernize or strengthen the use of titles, this must be done correctly.
– It’s about children. Order and children. It’s a very difficult question, she says.
Prince Joachim is the queen’s second son. He is the older brother Frederik who is the crown prince and wants to take the throne. His children will still hold the titles.
– More serious things are happening in the world
Princess Marie says she is having a hard time finding peace now that the whole world is aware of the crisis that has hit the Danish royal house.
– I would like to point out that obviously there are more serious things happening in the world, especially these days. It is a bit strange to talk about our children’s titles when we are faced with very serious challenges. But you have to remember children’s ways of thinking. Children’s terms. This is what’s decisive, she says.
Both point out that they have no plans to leave the Danish royal house.
– We never had any doubts about it. I hope no one doubts it, says Princess Marie.
Royal house expert and historian Trond Norén Isaksen believes that Prince Joachim’s latest move indicates that communication within the royal house is down.
– What I don’t understand is what they want to achieve by making this audience. I understand that they have to say this, but you will not change this decision. So the only thing they get is to create more bitterness.
Nor does the flow of information between Prince Joachim and the children appear to be entirely good, he believes:
– It seems that communication from him to his children has failed. It was in the air since 2008 that they would not be princes and princesses for the rest of their lives.
Isaksen believes that Prince Joachim appears to be taking away his father – the queen’s husband -, which in 2002 had a public outbreak in the media about dissatisfaction with her role as prince consort – and fled to France.
It led to the family traveled by himand posed for a photo shoot to show that everything was fine.
– It was a huge crisis. This somehow remembers him, and follows his father by resorting to public discontent instead of taking him to the chamber. Being a prince is important to him. Which actually hurts him really that his children become princes and princesses, that they don’t feel precious as cousins.
– But in a monarchy some are more important than others.
He thinks it is unlikely that the Queen will publicly respond to what Prince Joachim and Princess Marie say.
