LTennis has lost one of its kings. Roger Federer put his professional rackets aside on Friday 23 September, after a defeat in the Laver Cup. With Rafael Nadal, a rival for two decades, but also a friend of him, they failed to beat the American duo Tiafoe-Sock . However, this did not spoil the starting pot of the Swiss. Many players have cried, even those he tortured on the pitch. It is the sign of a great player. But for some tennis fans, Roger Federer isn’t the best player in history. The French prefer it … Rafael Nadal, according to an Odoxa poll for Winamax e RTL.
According to this survey, the French believe that Nadal is better than Federer, with 34% of the choices expressed, against 28%. Six points therefore separate the two friends, who are however much ahead of the other players who make up the top 5. Björn Borg got 10% of the votes, Novak Djokovic 8% and John McEnroe 6%.
The French find Federer “elegant” and “likeable”
Be careful though. If Rafael Nadal is the number in the heart of the French from a purely tennis point of view, Roger Federer was able to put everyone in agreement on his personality and his elegance: 93% of the interviewees consider the Swiss “friendly”, 90% of they find it “elegant” and, finally, 87% consider it close to the public.
The 1,005 representative people of the French population who responded to this poll also felt by a large majority (68%) that Roger Federer’s career would not have been as successful had he not had players like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
