Jake Gagne held out and won the 2022 America Championship. Former MotoGP rider Danilo Petrucci finished second in his debut season in the United States.
We must now talk about Jake Gagne as two-time US Superbike champion. Reigning champion, the Yamaha rider doubled his lead by retaining the crown in 2022, at the end of a season in which he had to wait for the last of twenty rounds, at Barber Motorsports Park, to seal the fate of the championship.
Challenged by Danilo Petrucci, a newcomer to the MotoAmerica paddock, Jake Gagne won after a controlled weekend (1st / 2nd), while his Italian opponent finished fourth in both races. His final advantage is finally 20 points, thanks in particular to a record of 12 wins and 15 podiums. Petrux concludes the campaign with a total of 16 podiums including 5 victories.
Winner of the last round of the season, Cameron Petersen wins the silver medal and allows Yamaha to have two representatives on the podium. There are even three in the top-4 with Mathew Scholtz. The presence of Danilo Petrucci, equipped with a Ducati, prevents the Japanese brand from signing a hat-trick. Another former resident of the MotoGP category, the Spaniard Hector Barbera, ends up in the top-5.
Championnat MotoAmerica 2022 (Top-5):
