Often waking up at night because of peeing, you recognize nocturia! : Ozone health

PART Most people don’t realize they have nocturia. Nocturia is a person’s need to get up more often at night to urinate or pee.

Dyah Purnamasari, Department of Metabolic Endocrinology and Diabetes, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Indonesia, stated that nocturia is divided into two types, namely polyuria and nocturnal polyuria.

On one occasion Dyah explained the difference between polyuria and nocturnal polyuria.

1. Polyuria

The amount of urine> 3 liters / 24 hours. Caused due to excessive fluid intake, uncontrolled diabetes, diabetes insipidus, or abnormalities of the urinary regulatory hormones in the brain.

2. Nocturnal polyuria

The amount of urine at night is greater, while it is normal for the total daily urine to be reduced. Causes include: heart failure, lower limb edema, sleep disturbance (OSA), medications (diuretics), drinking too much before bedtime.

“The causes of nocturia can vary. In terms of urology, it could be due to nerve disorders, urinary muscle disorders, bladder neoplasms and nocturia polyuria,” Dyah explained.

In addition to the urological side, nocturia can also occur on the non-urological side. Some of them involve a variety of life-threatening chronic diseases. Such as: heart failure, uncontrolled diabetes, diabetes insipidus, hypoalbumin, respiratory arrest during sleep, multiple sclerosis, depression, chronic pain, excessive fluid intake.
