Evenepoel breaks into the rainbow jersey
25.09.2022 | (rsn) – Remco Evenepoel secured the title in the men’s road race at the end of the World Championships in Australia. The 22-year-old Belgian confidently established himself as a soloist on the 266.9 kilometers from Helensburgh to Wollongong and won the world championship jersey in the elite for the first time. Evenepoel thus crowned his best season as a professional, in which he won, among other things, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Spain.
2:21 behind the new world champion, Frenchman Christophe Laporte won the silver medal in the sprint on the field ahead of Australian Michael Matthews and Evenepoel teammate Wout Van Aert. Following in the other places the Italian Matteo Trentin, the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff and the Slovak Peter Sagan, seventh.
Nikias Arndt from Cologne (+3: 08) was the best German driver in 52nd place, twelve places ahead of him Austrian Sebastian Schönberger in 40th place (+3: 08).
