Aceh Besar (Waspada Aceh) – Vaccination coverage in Aceh is still very low and poses a serious threat to children’s health.
The head of the surveillance and immunization section of the Aceh Health Service (Dinkes), Cut Efri Maizar, said nationwide vaccination coverage for children in Aceh is low, especially for measles and rubella, which is still 17. , 5%.
He said immunization is an effort to prevent children from various dangerous diseases such as measles, polio, tuberculous meningitis, diphtheria and other diseases.
This was raised during media gathering activities related to increasing the capacity of journalists regarding the immunization program in Aceh. This activity was held by the Unicef-supported Blood Foundation for Aceh, at Sophie’s Sunset Library, Lampuuk, Aceh Besar, Saturday (9/24/2022).
He continued, immunization is not a new program, but since 1948 it has been successful. He also said that vaccination hoaxes are still spreading in various circles in society.
“Unfortunately, not all parents are willing to immunize their children because of the fake vaccination news,” he said.
He urged parents who have children to get vaccinations according to time phases at the nearest health facility.
Meanwhile, the health officer of UNICEF Aceh representative, Dr Dita Ramadonna, also said that this immunization campaign was a great challenge. One of the efforts to increase comprehensive vaccination coverage is to increase socialization and public understanding of the importance of immunization.
A campaign model that can have an impact is needed so that public awareness of the importance of immunization for children is needed.
Therefore, his party calls on media partners to play a role in socialization to help increase public confidence in vaccination for children.
