,,New Yorkis a fast-paced area control game set within Stefan Feld City Collection to Queen Games appears. Building in the neighborhoods of the New York metropolis From 1 to 4 people their skyscrapers and fight for money, staff and prestige. The game of cards and offers is over 14 years playable and tough 60-90 minutes. We were able to play Queen Games press day.
Marisa’s opinion:
This accessible offers game clearly stands out from the other games in the City Collection. The hand and the pool of cards can be used to cast the appropriate color into the ring in the respective phases. Whoever offers the most cards gets a bonus. In general, it’s about building skyscrapers in the boroughs of New York and ultimately skimming the majority of points. Special skill tiles add depth to the game, but unfortunately the symbolism is not intuitive and skills need to be sought out more often. In my experience, the specified duration of 60-90 minutes is too high. “New York City” is a smooth and fast game with a lower skill level that works well even with two players. Even the standard version contains beautiful wood material, the deluxe edition only offers windows printed on the skyscrapers. My little surprise from press day.
Bjorn’s opinion:
“New York City” earned me the title of “surprise hit”. The successful combination of bidding mechanism and area control can be understood and played very well, after just one round the flow of play was very fast and enjoyable.
Even though there are many individual offer rounds per city area, the game remains pleasantly clear in my opinion. The clear and well thought out course of the rounds contributes to this. Offering a single card already enables your action. A very rewarding gaming experience for me. Sufficient variance comes into play through people with different abilities or randomly placed score tiles. The small wooden skyscrapers actually create a real little skyline on the game board. Furthermore, it is very easy to get an overview of the current majorities. Overall, a great mix of flow and depth.
