Cleveland. Jacoby Brissett threw two touchdown passes, Nick Chubb had a touchdown on the run and the Cleveland Browns recovered from an embarrassing collapse four days ago by beating their arch rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, 29-17.
Cleveland (2-1) built a nine-point lead early in the fourth quarter over Chubb’s 1-yard run and held out.
The Steelers (1-2) shot within 23-17 on Chris Boswell’s 34-yard field goal with 48 minutes remaining before Pittsburgh attempted an onside kick.
But unlike last Sunday, when the New York Jets recovered from a 13-point gap to win 31-30 in the final minutes, this time the Browns managed to deflect the kick and send the ball out of bounds.
Eventually, Cleveland fans calmed down as cornerback Denzel Ward dove into a Steelers tinker ball for late game scoring.
For the first time since 2004, Ben Roethlisberger was not part of the Pittsburgh lineup against Cleveland, a match the Ohio-born quarterback dominated for 18 seasons.
The third week of the NFL will continue next Sunday with the games: Houston-Chicago, Las Vegas-Tenesi, Kansas City-Indianapolis, Buffalo-Miami and Detroit-Minnesota, among others.
