William Shatner was revealed as the knight in The Masked Singer and admits that during the performance he heard nothing from anyone.
William Shatner was one of two celebs revealed in The Masked Singer’s season 8 premiere, and the actor admits he didn’t hear anything in his knight costume. The Star Trek actor was eliminated along with Hedgehog, revealed as Eric Idle, and Hummingbird, which is yet to be revealed. Harp was crowned the winner of the first round and will perform in the next round with a new group of competitors. Her identity is still hidden, but fans are convinced that Glee actress Amber Riley is behind the gold costume. William covered Fred Astaire’s “Puttin ‘On The Ritz”. The speakers were confident that The Masked Singer’s contestant’s voice sounded familiar.
Speaker Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed Knight’s identity. Other hypotheses included Ken Jeong’s David Hasselhoff and John Lithgow as Nicole Scherzinger’s hypothesis. In his pack of clues, William included images from space as a hint of his role in Star Trek and a statue of William Shakespeare revealing his name. William was the first contestant to sit in the new VIP section, introduced for the new season. As the show will have two eliminations per episode, the first contestant to be revealed will be seated in the VIP section to witness the reveal of the second contestant.
Although William had a lot of fun during his performance on The Masked Singer, he unfortunately heard nothing. The actor told People about the technical difficulty that occurred while he was wearing the knight costume. Some of the guesses for Knight during the premiere included Weird Al Yankovic and Jerry Springer. When asked if he thought those assumptions were offensive, William admitted he didn’t hear the speakers make those assumptions. “I couldn’t hear them. I have no idea. I think I heard my name or something. I wasn’t sure,” competitor Masked Singer said.
The actor added: “I know they called me. I took off my headdress and I don’t know anything else that happened. He also struggled to hear during his performance of The Masked Singer, which made it difficult to sing the song. “I couldn’t hear the orchestra. I didn’t see anyone – the people, the dancers. It was weird,” the actor said. Fortunately, the star still managed to finish her performance and the live studio audience really enjoyed it. However, he also admits that he doesn’t want to go back and look like he did because he doesn’t like looking at his work.
While he may not have won the round, William still gave the Masked Singer fans and speakers a fun performance. It’s a shame about the hearing situation, but no one in the audience or at home could tell how funny it was. The show still has an exciting season ahead of it with far more contestants and exciting theme nights. Masked Singer fans can’t wait to tune in each week to see what other celebs will be unmasked on stage this season.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8pm EST on Fox.
