The Croatian team ignited the fight to qualify for the finals of the European Football Championship, after beating the Danish host 2-1, and the French team raised the score to 5 points in third place, after losing hope to qualify today, Thursday, in the fifth round of the level one Group A races of the Championship.
Croatia raised their score to 10 points at the top of the group, one point more than their Danish counterpart, one round before the end of the group stage of the tournament.
Borna Sosa opened the scoring for the Croatian team in the 49th minute, then Christian Eriksen drew for the Danish team in the 77th minute, but Lovro Mayer scored the winning goal for the Croatian team in the 79th minute.
Mbappe and Giroud shine in the victory of France
In another match in the same group, France kept their hopes of remaining in the first division of the European Nations League after Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud scored in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Austria.
Mbappe opened the scoring with a stunning goal before Giroud decided, which once again showed manager Didier Deschamps that he is more of a third option in attack.
France, who will travel to Denmark next Sunday, have climbed to third place in Group A with 5 points in as many games.
But the win came at a price, as defender Jules Conde and goalkeeper Mike Mainan were injured, and this pair could join Karim Benzema, Hugo Lloris and Paul Pogba on the absentee list.
Interestingly, each group of the first level will qualify for the finals, while the fourth ranked team in each group will be relegated to the lower level.
Holland beat Poland
In Group D, Cody Jakbo scored an early-stage goal and Stephen Bergwein added another as the Netherlands beat host Poland 2-0 and are within one point of their group victory in the European Nations League.
Undefeated Holland have won four of their five first-class group games, three points clear of Belgium, who beat Wales 2-1.
The Netherlands only need a home draw when they host Belgium in Amsterdam next Sunday to secure a spot in next year’s Nations League four-nation finals.
The goal came with Jacobo in the 13th minute at the end of a beautiful movement of the ball and a perfect cross pass by Denzel Dumfries.
Bergwein doubled the result in the 60th minute when he swapped the ball with substitute Vincent Janssen and hit the net brilliantly.
