Russian aggression against Ukraine is not going well. On the 21st, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that he would use “all means available to him” to protect the territory. He wasn’t bluffing when he said he was ready to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the United States took “seriously” the hidden “irresponsible” threat of Putin’s use of nuclear weapons.
“It would be irresponsible for a nuclear power to speak like this, but for the past seven months it is not unusual and we will take it very seriously.” He said: “We are monitoring their strategic position as much as possible, so we will change our strategic position if necessary, but at the moment there is no indication that this is necessary.”
Asked how the US would respond to Russia’s use of its nuclear arsenal, Kirby reiterated US President Joe Biden’s previous remarks that analysts speculated it could mean a demonstrative Black Sea explosion. and the use of nuclear warheads on the battlefield to limit the amount of radiation, or possibly use larger weapons. Kirby bluntly said: “There will be serious consequences, not only will he become an even more despised pariah on the world stage, but the international community will have to bear serious consequences.”
Putin ordered the mobilization of reservists to go to war on the 21st and in his national speech he hinted at the use of nuclear weapons, which aroused condemnation from the international community. In response to Putin’s nuclear threat, Biden urged all countries in his speech to the UN General Assembly on the 21st to re-commit to strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime through diplomacy. He warned that “a nuclear war has no winners and must not be fought” and criticized Russia’s threat to use nuclear weapons as irresponsible.
