Al-Marsad Newspaper: The United States Department of Agriculture has decided to approve the use of genetically modified tomatoes in order to address the lack of nutrients.
Scientists have claimed that purple tomatoes last longer than regular tomatoes and are more beneficial to health, according to CNN.
The researchers believed that changing the tomatoes’ genes was not just a change in color, but rather an improvement in its nutritional quality.
British researchers from the John Innes Center pointed out that the purple color of fresh tomatoes increases levels of anthocyanin, a cancer-fighting antioxidant.
