Palestinian sources indicated that the Palestinian Authority Preventive Security Service in Nablus arrested Shtayyeh along with two others accompanying him.
This arrest sparked public outcry in Nablus, which led to clashes and shootings.

Young people blocked the streets with rubber tires and gunmen opened fire in the air as an expression of protest.
Shtayyeh was previously arrested three times and spent four years in Israeli jails.
Israeli forces have listed him as wanted since June 2021. Israeli soldiers broke into his family home in the city of Salem, east of Nablus, several times in an attempt to arrest him.

To date, all of Israel’s attempts have failed. Shtayyeh also survived several assassination attempts, most notably when a group of resistance fighters were besieged in the Yasmina neighborhood of Nablus’ old city on 24 July, where Muhammad Al-Azizi and Abd Al-Rahman Sobh were martyred.
Hamas fighters in the Gaza Strip and resistance groups in the West Bank condemned the arrest of two fugitives, Musab Shtayyeh and Ameed Tabila, in the city of Nablus.
Calling for their immediate release, Hamas said the arrests were a new stain on the Palestinian Authority’s hands and its security coordination record.
“As the enemy continues to carry out murders, arrests, Judaization (Judaization) and settlements, the PA aligns it with the continued coordination of security, the repression of our people and the pursuit and arrest of resistance fighters, in outside of all our national norms, “the statement said.
