An unprecedented medieval-themed blood collection will take place on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd September at the Salle Saint-Jean. It is open to all volunteers.
Donors will be able to “discover a tailor-made exhibition that traces the history of the building, from its construction in the 12th century. All this will be displayed on large panels that the Municipality lends us, throughout the course of the donation, ”explains Chanelle André, head of the institutional communication center at the EFS Center-Pays de la Loire.

At the same time, they will discover another story: that of the donation of blood, illustrated by the views of the castle. Donors will be offered a snack, still linked to the Middle Ages. The teams on the pitch will also be disguised, always in connection with the theme.
The operation is part of “Donation of blood and heritage”, the result of the partnership between the French Blood Institute (EFS) and the Center for National Monuments (CMN). The two public institutions have signed this collaboration with the aim of honoring donors by offering them an unprecedented experience.
Attract new donors
“We are delighted with the support of Château de Châteaudun in this relay of information. With this partnership, we want to attract new donors “, explains Chanelle André. The residence of Jean de Dunois joins the other eleven monuments that are also partners of this solidarity action.
After the success of the collections organized in the past in exceptional places such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon, the Château de Chabenet in Châteauroux or the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, it was obvious that the EFS continued in this approach from which the partnership with CMN.

These “atypical collections” are now more and more numerous and tend to develop further in France. The health crisis, which has taken hold in the last two years, has prompted the EFS to identify new places to remedy the difficulties in the collection offer.
63 slots still available
These blood impulses have a dual purpose: to carry out this gesture of citizenship and solidarity, discovering the history of a monument of the French heritage, such as the Châteaudun castle.
If 130 donors are expected during these two collection days, according to EFS estimates, there are still reservation slots. “Yesterday morning there were still 63 vacancies available,” notes Chanelle André. There are still a few days left for the blood draw! “
Twelve partner monuments. In addition to Châteaudun Castle, eleven other outstanding buildings have responded to the appeal of this partnership between EFS and CMN. Among these, the castle of Pierrefonds (Oise), whose guard room will serve as a place for the collection of blood from tomorrow. This building, redesigned by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, was built at the end of the 14th century by Louis I d’Orléans, father of Jean de Dunois.
