It could take days before the power grid in Puerto Rico is restored. Puerto Rico governor Pedro Pierluisi said this after Hurricane Fiona almost completely paralyzed the country on Sunday.

The hurricane tail also caused problems on the island on Monday due to continued heavy rain. The National Guard has saved more than 900 people from the plight, there is still a risk of flooding and most Puerto Ricans currently have no tap water.

Dominican Republic

Fiona also toured the Dominican Republic. Hundreds of people have been evacuated there and floods have been reported in many places. As a result, several villages have been cut off from the outside world.

According to President Abinader, it will take a few more days before there is a full view of the aftermath of the hurricane. It was the first time since 2018 that the country has been hit by a hurricane.

Fiona gets stronger

Fiona is now moving north to the Turks and Caicos Islands. The hurricane is expected to increase in strength above hot water, from category 1 to category 3. This is the third highest category. A hurricane warning has been issued for the archipelago by the US Hurricane Center NHC.
