A recent Xbox Series X update allows you to play many more Xbox One games offline without a mandatory DRM check. The update would remove restrictions on “the vast majority” of Xbox One games.
The new digital rights managementthe policy was changed earlier this month with update 2208 launched without notice and allows you to play Xbox One games offline on the latest Xbox Series X and S consoles. The new feature was initially introduced by the YouTube channel Discovered Hikikomori Media a suitor confirmed by an Xbox employee.
“We looked at the data from the Series X and S releases and found that in the vast majority of Xbox One games on disc, an internet compatibility check is not required. Some games may still need to be updated. [voordat deze offline gespeeld kunnen worden] to ensure a good experience, ”Eden Marie said on behalf of Xbox.
Marie refers to games that, for example, are only partially on the disc and still need to be updated during installation. In that case, an internet connection is required at least once. Older Xbox and Xbox 360 games require you to download an emulated version first, and then continue to require an Internet connection. The relaxed DRM feature does not apply to digital games installed through Xbox Game Pass.
Until recently required compatible with previous versions Xbox One disc games on Xbox Series X always require an Internet connection, even if the user has installed the game on the console via the disc. Due to the already revamped DRM policy, the disc’s authenticity no longer needs to be verified online. Technically, the update also applies to the S Series, but since this console does not have a disc tray, in practice nothing changes in that case.
