On Monday he took a series of royal and official figures a final farewell to Queen Elizabeth II. He died on September 8, at the age of 96.
The day marks one of the few occasions when you see the royalty of the world gather. With that naturally came a number of expectations about who would be there. Among those who may have been a self-appointed guest was Sarah Ferguson (62).
Never happened before
She was married to Prince Andrew (62) until 1996 and is the mother of two of the Queen’s grandchildren, Princess Beatrice (34) and Princess Eugenia (32).
Despite the divorce, she and the queen maintained a close relationship.

Full of words of praise
When Queen Elizabeth was to be buried on Monday, “Fergie” was more present. She is said to have had a very special relationship with the late monarch.
According to Caroline Vagle, an expert on the Se og Hør royal house, she was close to her mother-in-law.
– Queen Elizabeth and Fergie are supposed to have always had a good relationship. In her tribute to her queen after her death, Sarah refers to her as an incredible mother-in-law and friend of hers, who was also close to her after her divorce, she says.
Even when Ferguson was a guest on the podcast “Tea with Twiggy” he had a series of words of praise for his former mother-in-law.
Fergie’s dark past has been left behind
– I honestly think my mother-in-law was more of a mother to me than my mother. She was always there, she stated in the podcast, according to Country town.
He described the queen as “modern”, “flexible” and “understanding”. Queen Elizabeth must have been lenient too, according to Ferguson.
– I absolutely believe there is no better mentor. The continuity of her Majesty was a great honor. A great honor. She makes me cry, she told the magazine.

Vagle believes Ferguson’s attendance at the funeral speaks for itself.

Not invited
In addition to the queen’s funeral, Ferguson has occasionally attended major royal events over the years. While attending the wedding of Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (41) in 2018, he was not even invited in the marriage of Prince William (40) and Duchess Kate (40) seven years earlier, in 2011.

She was also not present Prince Philip’s funeral last spring. Due to the pandemic, only 30 people were able to greet the prince, mostly close relatives. It’s true that Ferguson and Philip have also had a turbulent relationship over the years.

Ferguson and Prince Andrew separated in 1992 and only four years later the divorce was finalized. The separation came after rumors that the prince was unfaithful.

According to The sun it is said that the relationship was so strained that the prince refused to stay in his own room. He is said to have gone so far as to refuse her to be in any of the royal residences if he had been there.
– After his death, the British press speculated that it was easier to include Sarah in the rest of the family. Some even thought there might be a new marriage between Sarah and Andrew. They are great friends and actually still live together, says Caroline Vagle.
