Having entered Group A with Jordan, Kuwait and Nepal, the Indonesian national team collected six points. Fachruddin Aryanto and his friends only narrowly lost to host Jordan by a score of 0-1.
This result makes Shin the only coach of the Indonesian national team capable of doing so. The Indonesian national team is known to have previously appeared in the Asian Cup four times and 18 times in the U-19 Asian Cup.
The four coaches of the Indonesian national team in the previous Asian Cup were Danurwindo (1996), Nandar Iskandar (2000), Ivan Kolev (2004) and Alfred Riedl (2007). Both of these coaches didn’t have time to handle the U-19s.
But Shin is not the first to bring two age groups to the Asian Cup. The first coach to bring two age groups to the Asian Cup was Fakhri Husaini, with Indonesia U-16 and Indonesia U-19.
Fakhri’s Indonesia U-16 appeared at the 2018 U-16 Asian Cup in Malaysia. The following year, Fakhri made sure Indonesia U-19 won a ticket to the 2020 U-19 Asian Cup. Unfortunately, this event was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
