An investigation into manslaughter and involuntary work-related injuries was entrusted to the Morbihan police after the death of a 36-year-old man on 20 December 2020, after the Ligue 1 Lorient-Rennes match, at the Moustoir stadium.
The victim was the brother of a team member from Sportingsols, the club’s lawn maintenance provider. For each game, three employees of the company responsible for maintaining the lawn could each invite a relative.
“At half time, the volunteer could walk on the lawn to help restore the clods of earth, fill in the holes”, according to a company spokesperson interviewed at the time.
The drama happened minutes after the match, as Rennes substitutes were still cleaning up on the pitch.
In addition, the company and two of its managers, in charge of supervising compliance with health and safety regulations, will be prosecuted for three other crimes: provision of hidden work against several people, supply to workers of equipment without information or training and finally the supply to workers of equipment that does not allow them to be safeguarded.
