According to the latest international cancer research report by the medical journal “The Lancet”, after collecting and reporting to 204 countries, a total of 350 types of diseases and death statistics, from the 2019 data, it emerged that there are there were about 10 million cases in the world, for a total of 23. Among the deaths from this type of cancer, 4.45 million are due to known risk factors, equal to 44.4% of the overall figure.

The study found that smoking is the leading cause of cancer, accounting for 33.9% of the overall population, followed by drinking, accounting for approximately 7.4%. More than half of all cancer deaths in men are related to these two behaviors; more than a third of women are related to these two behaviors.

In addition, improper nutrition, unsafe sex, and exposure to carcinogens in the workplace are significant cancer risk factors. As for obesity (high body mass index), it was the largest preventable risk factor for cancer from 2010 to 2019.

All men who died from cancer in 2019 and more than a third of women who died from cancer died from these preventable risk factors, the study says.

Study co-author Christopher Murray, director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine, said smoking has long been considered a leading cause of cancer worldwide. This study will help countries identify cancer risk factors, thereby reducing the problem of cancer morbidity and mortality.
