TIME.CO, Jakarta – Former Manchester United (MU) player. David Beckham he refuses to be privileged and is willing to wait in line for 13 hours to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II who is buried in Westminster Hall on Friday 16 September 2022.
Long lines of mourners who want to pay their respects to War Elizabeth II reaching more than 5 miles or 8 kilometers and Beckham is said to have started queuing from 02:00 am London time. Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022.
“I thought it would be calmer to come at two in the morning … I was wrong,” he would say Daily mail.
According to Beckham, Queen Elizabeth II’s departure is a difficult time not only for Britain but for the world as many people feel the loss.
“It’s hard for the nation, it’s hard for everyone around the world because everyone feels it,” he said.
Not only queuing up with thousands of people who came, Beckham also bought a box of donuts and handed them out to mourning comrades.
The English football legend said one of his fondest memories with Queen Elizabeth was when he received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) award from the Queen in 2002.
“To receive the OBE, I brought my grandparents who really raised me to be a huge supporter and fan of the royal family,” he recalls.
According to Beckham, when he received his OBE, Queen Elizabeth first asked him questions and spoke to him. “I am so lucky to have such a moment in my life, to be close to her Majesty of her,” she said.
Beckham also recalled how proud he was to wear the England national team jersey and headband as he sang God Save The Queen at an international match.
“When we did it, it was something special,” said David Beckham.
