Nightmare evening for Sarri’s team at MCH Arena: Paulinho, Kaba, Evander, Milinkovic Savic, Isaksen and Sviatchenko scored
Lazio sinks in the second outing of the Europa League. After the 4-2 trimmed al Feyenoordmen of Sarri are overwhelmed 5-1 by Midtjylland. A nightmare evening for the Biancocelesti at the MCH Arena. After a balanced start, around half an hour the Danes score two goals in four minutes with Paulinho (26 ‘) and Kaba (30 ‘), then they spread in the second half. Overwhelmed and humiliated. Lazio returns from Denmark with five passive goals and a sound lesson. A lesson in football and life. Against Midtjylland the biancocelesti sin of pride, they do not fight and face the match on tiptoe underestimating the opponent. An attitude that costs dearly to the Sarri gang, the protagonist of a performance to be forgotten. Especially in the defensive phase, where evident limits of some spare parts emerge, but not only. In fact, in Herning’s débâcle, the lack of personality and quality in the median and the inability to maliciously build really dangerous actions in attack are also striking. A failure on all fronts, profoundly marked by a decidedly revisable physical condition and an unusual tactical confusion. A bad performance that together with Feyenoord’s victory with Sturm Graz also keeps Group F in great balance with all three-point teams.
For the second act in the Europa League Sarri relies on turnover, places eight changes compared to the match against Verona and rests Milinkovic Savic. Behind the trident Felipe Anderson-Immobile-Pedro, in the median there are Vecino, Cataldi and Luis Alberto. In defense, however, it’s up to Hysaj, Gila, Romagnoli and Radu. Choices that at the MCH Arena mix the cards a little and mark the start of the match. In search of the right feeling between the departments, Lazio starts with the handbrake on and focuses on the dribble to try to assert the higher technical rate. Short and compact, the Midtjylland instead tightens the lines, defends with many men and immediately puts the match on the fight in every department. An attitude that keeps the pace high and gives little space to the narrow phrasing of Sarri’s men. With Luis Alberto the pivot of the biancoceleste game it is Lazio that make the match, but Midtjylland is density to the limit, withstands the impact and tries to restart with Isaksen.
Up to 25 ‘the game remains blocked and there are no great occasions to report. Then the hosts increase the laps and the biancoceleste defense goes haywire. Isaksen hits the crossbar after getting free in the area and on the development of the action Paulinho unlocks the game with a precise left. A goal that breaks the balance and paves the way for the doubling of Midtjylland. After less than two minutes, in fact, the Danes are still on target with Kaba, good at taking advantage of a clumsy slide by Gila in the area and beating Provedel coldly. A devastating one-two for Lazio, who at the end of the first half tries to react with a left from Pedro, but then still risks big on a header by Dreyer and an attempt from the edge by Evander.
The second half begins with Lazio higher and more aggressive, but it is still Midtjylland to sink the blow and dominate far and wide. After a post by Luis Alberto, on the restart Cataldi knocks out Isaksen in the area and Evander signs the three of a kind from the spot. A network to which Sarri responds by removing Pedro, Vecino and Radu and sending Cancellieri, Milinkovic Savic and Marusic onto the field. He is a move that gives Lazio more physicality and leads to the goal of the “Sergeant” with the complicity of Lossl, but which is not enough to get the match going. In the evening, Isaksen also jumps Marusic in the area and gets a photocopy of another penalty. Penalty that Evander shoots against Provedel, but that Isaksen himself then places on the net on the rebound. Poker that dampens the already feeble hopes of Lazio in the bud and leads to a humiliating match finale for the Sarri gang. Disunited and without forces and ideas to react, the biancolesti in fact collect yet another goal by Sviatchenko on a cross from afar confirming the nightmare evening. An evening very similar to that experienced by Roma last season against Bodo / Glimt and to be quickly forgotten to start again with humility with your head down.
