A man died Wednesday afternoon in a rowboat accident on the Weser in Bremen. According to police reports, a sports boat capsized between the Karl Carstens bridge and the Weserwehr.

The occupants of the rowboat were a 73-year-old man and an 89-year-old man. It is said that they lost control of the boat at Hastedter Osterdeich and fell into the water.

The police were alerted by passers-by with an emergency call. On the spot, the emergency services managed to draw the attention of the head of another sports boat to the 89-year-old floating on the water. The boatman pulled the man out of the water and gave first aid. The firefighters then brought the man to the ground, but an ambulance could only result in death. The 73-year-old managed to save himself from the water on his own.

Police are investigating the exact cause of death. At present, however, it does not assume any third party debt.
