Vipers states this in an email to its partners.
Gjekstad’s contact with the Vipers ends after this season. The successful coach, who among other things led the Vipers to two consecutive Champions League titles, will therefore not remain beyond the club.
According to the club, Gjekstad wants a break after leading the Vipers for five years. Gjekstad was hired as the club’s head coach in 2018 and is in his fifth season.
– Five years is a long time. There is no drama in this. I have fun in Vipers, but when the season is over it’s time to do something else, Gjekstad tells NRK, who was the first to break the news.
At the same time, Vipers stresses that the club will not lower its ambitions after Gjekstad’s red card. The club is working to find a good replacement who will take over responsibility for Gjekstad after this season.
The vipers also write in the email that Gjekstad’s motivation is 100 percent for the 2022/23 season, which will therefore be his last.
Morten Jørgensen, who sits on the sports committee and who has had the dialogue, says the following:
– The club has known this for a long time. We had an open and fair discussion about what he thinks, and Ole was open about the fact that after five years he thought it was time to do something else. We just have to respect it. That doesn’t mean we didn’t tell him very clearly that we wanted him to continue, says Jørgensen.
We will come back with more.
