A Chicago court has convicted R&B star R. Kelly on charges of child pornography, months after being sentenced to 30 years in prison last June in a case involving sexual offenses against young women, including minors. . However, a federal jury acquitted Kelly, known internationally for his song “I Believe I Can Fly,” which sold 75 million copies of records on other charges of obstruction of justice.
Kelly was accused of having, along with two of his former accomplices, interrupted his 2008 child pornography trial by forcing a victim, through threats and corruption, not to testify. During the trial sessions, excerpts of video clips were shown showing Kelly’s sexual violence against underage girls, one of whom was no more than fourteen years old.
It took the 12-member jury about 11 hours to reach this verdict, which could add another hefty sentence to Kelly’s already imprisonment and up to 30 years in prison. and Dean R.
