In the first round of Group B of the men’s handball Champions League, Pick Szeged lost 35-28 to one of the series contenders, Barca. After the match, the NSO TV staff spoke to Zoltán Szita, who played for Szeged for the first time in BL and also scored a goal.
First of all, we asked Zoltán Szita what it meant for him to be able to play for the Szeged colors in BL for the first time, scoring a goal in a packed arena.
“Given the outcome of the match it is difficult to talk about it now, of course it is nice to go in and score the first goal, but it would have been better if it had ended differently.”

Juan Carlos Pastor: – We started the game well and within a quarter of an hour we gained five goals. The situation changed later, mainly because Barça’s defense improved considerably, we started playing inaccurately and our opponent punished us with a goal for our turnovers. With a three or four goal lead, the Catalans increased their lead by playing freely. We still have a lot of work to do to be worthy rivals to the best teams in the Champions League.
Carlo Ortega: – First of all, I would like to recall an old memory: in 1977, the two teams met for the first time in the sports hall in Újszeged and, according to my memories, Barca won. Szeged deserves this wonderful arena, it’s great to play handball in such an atmosphere. There are two reasons for our victory, one is that we have changed the control position at the right time and the other is that our defense has improved significantly. When we took the initiative, we affirmed our will.
