Spy Thriller “Suflieris“Tells the moment when the USSR and Germany surprise the world by signing a non-aggression pact, and the others do not yet know that the pact also contains a secret protocol that puts the Baltic countries and Finland under the rule of Stalin and allows Hitler to invade Poland. The central character of the film is a military intelligence agent who tragically lost his beloved woman and is on the trail of a mysterious double agent from the Soviet Union. The film combines both a sophisticated historical setting and the growing pre-war anxiety that reigned across Europe, including the Baltics, as well as a love story that permeates the plot. The spy’s personality is revealed at the dramatic climax, masterfully sustaining the tension until the film ends. Here because “Suflieris“will not leave fans of action films or lovers of melodramas indifferent.
Current events – the war in Ukraine and global changes in the world – allow us to draw parallels with the film’s plot, which awakens the collective memory of the nation and forces us to evaluate the role of history today. The film provokes a reflection on the enormous influence of personality and human actions on the destinies of other people, sometimes even of entire nations. None of us could have imagined that in the 21st century we would experience similar horrors and ignorance about the future. The suffering then and now makes us appreciate the times of peace. By telling stories of previous wars, their experiences and devastation, we have the opportunity to address this topic in a form accessible to us, so as not to remain silent, to remember the values that have remained unchanged for our nations: freedom, honor and respect.
