Jin S. Lee,

The Ground Zero site that housed the twin towers of the World Trade Center has become a veritable pilgrimage site. In the exact position of the two towers, which once dominated the Financial District, there are two large pools with internal waterfalls, on the edges of which the names of all the victims of the deadly attacks of 11 September 2001 are engraved. water, which falls into the pool and rises, represents both the collapse of the two buildings and resilience.

Underneath this highly symbolic work, inaugurated in 2011, is the 9/11 museum, which brings together thousands of visitors every day, who often come out in shock. Penetrating into the bowels of the foundations of the twin towers, one is seized by a strange sensation.

Wrecks of airplanes, crumpled metal structures of the building, partially destroyed fire trucks and all sorts of personal items belonging to the victims, throughout the visit, take us back to one of the most significant tragedies of the 21st century. If it is above all a place of contemplation and homage, one can wonder about the importance of a souvenir shop. A deal that upsets some relatives of the victims.

Located north of Manhattan, the Harlem neighborhood is the cradle of African American culture. Tourists flock especially on Sunday mornings to attend one of the many gospel masses in the neighborhood. Having become real tourist attractions, without losing their authenticity and charm, gospel masses are memorable experiences. Chess games in Washington Square Park

Chess fans should definitely make a stop at Washington Square Park. Located in the middle of Greenwich Village, it offers a dozen free-to-enter chess tables where you can challenge formidable players every day. Some parts take place under the gaze of several onlookers. For some “chess cheaters”, it’s a real sustenance. Wager $ 5 before the game, you can get it back if you win. To be fair, against them, your chances of winning are very slim …

Gastronomic break in a biscuit institution

Leaving New York without tasting a Levain Bakery cookie would be a truly regrettable mistake. The small brand founded in 1995 by two friends who had nothing to do with the sector is now known all over the world for its exceptional biscuits. Thick, golden cakes, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, with huge chocolate chips. You have to taste to understand. There are six stores in New York and the queue is sometimes long. One thing is certain. You’ll never see cookies the same again …

New York has the distinction of being easily accessible from several major European airports. From Brussels or Frankfurt, several companies offer direct flights at very affordable prices. It is not uncommon to be able to reach the Big Apple for less than 400 euro, provided you do so well in advance. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons to visit New York, but the Christmas season also offers its share of magic.
