“Now is not the time to give up”; Borel will encourage EU Member States to allocate new funding to Ukraine

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Jozeps Borrell, will propose to EU Member States to allocate new funding for military aid to Ukraine.

This was announced by Borel to the European Parliament.

“I will soon propose to Member States to grant the sixth round of European Peace Fund aid for the continuation of military aid to Ukraine,” said Borel, without specifying a specific amount.

EU member states have already allocated € 2.5 billion from this credit line in five rounds of € 500 million each.

“The Russian military is retreating. Now is not the time to surrender. We must continue our military assistance and redouble our efforts,” Borrell said.

He recalled that the European Peace Fund is an intergovernmental fund set up by EU Member States and not under the control of the European Parliament. “This is not funding from the European budget,” noted Borel.
