Designed by award-winning architecture and interior design firm Denniston, under the supervision and direction of Jean-Michel Gathy, Aman New York opened to welcome its first guests in August 2022, celebrating a new era of hospitality in one of the largest cities in the world.
Located in the architecturally significant landmark of the Crown Building, Aman New York brings the peace promised by the Sanskrit name of Aman to the heart of Manhattan, with the unrivaled design expertise of Jean-Michel Gathy.
Aman New York is located on the corner of the prestigious 5And Avenue and 57And Street and has undergone an extensive transformation. A new destination in the heart of Manhattan of unparalleled luxury, the hotel is comprised of 83 elegant rooms and suites, three restaurants, a world-class spa and an exclusive collection of 22 private homes that represent the first residences of the city of Aman .
Peace is the philosophy of Aman. What makes Aman New York peaceful is the high attention given to the acoustic treatment inside the building, enhanced by layers of panels and materials, as well as by the incorporation of the fireplace to create a peaceful environment in the rooms. There is a strong sense of collaboration in the design of the Crown Building and the interior layout of Aman New York, they are conceptually geometric, powerful and simple. The soft colors, the simplicity of the materials and the overall harmony create a feeling of peace throughout Aman New York. It is a composition and not a juxtaposition of elements.

Faithful to the iconic Aman DNA of the east and west }
Faithful to the Aman DNA, offering sublime intimacy, unrivaled service and understated, relaxed elegance, Jean-Michel Gathy defines Aman New York by integrating the aesthetics of East and West, while maintaining the palpable tranquility of the brand’s Asian roots. Everything in Aman’s DNA is about being underestimated. We didn’t fully bring minimalism to Aman New York, but we genuinely respected it and combined it with the energy New York City needs.
Shared by Jean-Michel Gathy.
Aman New York has refined its offering with its transformative influence on body and mind through harmoniously designed environments that transport guests away from their daily lives. Jean-Michel Gathy was inspired by Asian characteristics and his design work shows the balance and subtle juxtaposition of many contrasts: old and new, East and West, natural and artificial.
An aesthetic journey
Upon arrival, the experience sets the tone for an aesthetic journey that complements the power of the building’s golden splendor. The double-height atrium with multi-layered textured ceiling and wall panels covered with natural fabrics alludes to the brand’s Asian heritage. It immerses spaces with the meditative beauty and inimitable tranquility of nature through floral compositions, inspired by the classic Japanese Ikebana, which celebrate the incessant heartbeat of Manhattan.
Each suite has a working fireplace, the first in New York, while the bathrooms are luxurious and oversized with oval tubs, marble rainfall showers, and double sinks. Large windows offer dynamic city views, combined with the use of organic and natural materials that bring a sense of balance and harmony and are reminiscent of Eastern Aman resorts.
Woods of oak, walnut and aromatic cinnamon add sparkle to bespoke finishes, floors, doors and furniture, while bronze, brass and blackened stainless steel lend sparkling warmth and comfort. Inspired by the airy architecture of Aman properties in Southeast Asia, bespoke double pivot door pairs were created to form bespoke central partitions, allowing clients to transform the atmosphere, creating an open layout or private spaces Intimate.
Cultivating the New York lifestyle mentality
Respecting the historic heritage of the Crown Building, the opening of Aman New York marks a new era in hospitality. It is also the culmination of a monumental transformation of the iconic Crown Building in Manhattan. This centuries-old building has undergone a major restoration and a transcendent project by Jean-Michel Gathy, who carefully reinvented urban design in order to transport guests away from the hectic pace of the city to the inimitable tranquility of Aman.
The highlight of the hotel, its large selection of living spaces, such as the green and spacious terrace at 14And floor offering catering all year round. The terraced garden is lined with water features that add a soft, relaxing touch and braziers that create a sense of emotion and energy. Restaurants include Arva, Aman’s convivial Italian restaurant, and Nama, Aman’s interpretation of Japanese culinary tradition. Washoku which features a Japanese Hinoki wood worktop for sophisticated omakase-style cuisine.
Aman New York has included all the facilities one would want within reach. Travelers can walk the streets of the city and are in the epicenter of the city, but when they want to come back and relax, they have their own sanctuary. The place we have designed is extremely well located, in the middle of the action, but still a peaceful retreat.
